FORMER Open champion John Daly is to begin treatment again for alcoholism after withdrawing from the Players' Championship in Florida. The American nicknamed "The Wild Thing" was seen in a nightspot called Sloppy Joe's on Thursday night and spent several hours drinking with members of the Jacksonville Jaguars American Football team.

Daly sang with the bar band and at one point took the microphone, drawing loud applause when he praised the Jaguars. The next day he withdrew from the tournament, saying he had a sore hip.

"As part of my on going battle to overcome alcoholism, I have decided to immediately enter the Betty Ford Alcohol Rehabilitation Programme," Daly said in a statement yesterday.

Daly, the 30 year old winner of the 1991 PGA Championship and 1995 Open, entered an alcohol rehabilitation programme in 1993,

Love was initially credited with finishing joint seventh along with Colin Montgomerie but was then disqualified after an incident on the 17th green when his ball moved as he was practising and he forgot to replace it.
