Dermot Weld's Dance Design didn't get the rub of the green when seventh to Ryafan in the Grade One Yellow Ribbon Stakes (10f) at Santa Anita on Sunday. In a rough race, both she and Memories Of Silver, the eventual third, stumbled after making contact in mid-straight.

Dance Design never recovered, but the order should remain unchanged, although Memories Of Silver was deemed partly responsible for making her own trouble.

Weld said: "It's hard to say where she would have finished at the stage when the bumping occurred, although I don't think she'd have beaten the winner.

"It's conjecture after that. The horses were badly interfered with - Memories Of Silver especially. She had no chance and we had no chance."

It remains now to be seen whether Weld will allow Dance Design to take her chance in the Breeders' Cup Turf at Hollywood Park on Saturday.

John Gosden, the trainer of Ryafan, also saddled the fourth home, Squeak. Ryafan will now try to complete a US hattrick in the Grade One Matriarch Stakes on November 30th, when victory would probably be enough to secure an Eclipse Award.

Michael Stoute's Singspiel, the probable Breeders' Cup Turf favourite, limbered up for his big assignment by doing seven furlongs in one minute 26.6 seconds at Hollywood Park on Sunday.

But there was no joy for the Godolphin filly, Tulipa, who weakened to finish fourth in the Long Island Handicap (12f) at Aqueduct.

Johnny Murtagh, out of luck in Hong Kong on Saturday, has three mounts booked for this evening at Happy Valley.
