EAMONN DARCY, who plays out of the Druids Glen club, yesterday won the Christy O'Connor Jnr invitational proam - sponsored by Ballymore Properties - at Galway Bay Golf Club, which was in aid of the Galway Leukemia Trust.
Darcy had four birdies in his round of 68 - on the par three fourth, par three seventh, par four 11th and par five 14th - and covered the remainder in level par.
Steven Richardson was the early leader in the clubhouse, after a round of 71, however he was joined on that figure by fellow Englishman David J Russell later and both were subsequently passed by Argentinian Eduardo Romero, before Darcy returned his splendid winning score.
Italian Costantino Rocca had an outward nine of 38 and came home one shot worse for 77; he was joined on this total by veteran Irish professional, Christy O'Connor Senior (Royal Dublin). O'Connor, now 72 years of age, was only one over after his first nine.
