Robert Jones, the former Lions and Wales scrumhalf, may now be in the twilight of his playing career but his commitment to Swansea has not been diminished in any respect. Eight days ago he endured a quite staggering weekend on behalf of the club. He is now a very successful rugby commentator with BBC Radio 5 live and it was in that capacity that he headed to the Arms Park to cover Cardiff in European Cup action.

The 3 p.m. kick-off facilitated his plan to make a mad dash after that game to Swansea so that he could sit on the bench for their game against Biarritz. He enlisted the help of his wife who waited outside the Arms Park for her husband at 4.45 p.m. and whisked him away towards Swansea.

Jones had 45 minutes to make the 5.30 kick-off. He changed in the car on the way to the match, climbing into the back seat to do a little stretching.

The madcap dash got him to St Helen's in time to take his place on the bench and he even managed a small cameo on the pitch, coming on in the 75th minute as a replacement. It certainly offers the best representation of the journalistic expression of "doing two Heineken Cup game sin the one day".
