Two second-half goals by Sean Davey powered Sligo to a deserved win over Galway in the FBD Connacht football league at Tubbercurry yesterday.
Davey scored from the penalty spot in the 40th minute to put Sligo four points in front, and he again drilled the ball into the Galway net after 58 minutes to put the game beyond the visitors' reach.
John Donnellan, who was in top form, opened the scoring after 60 seconds and went on to score nine of Galway's points. He was unlucky not to score a goal in the 12th minute when his 30-yard drive hit the post.
Eamonn O'Hara scored Sligo's opening point in the third minute and the sides were level on four occasions before Paul Durcan put Sligo 0-7 to 0-6 ahead at half-time.
Donnellan popped over three unanswered points at the end of the game but it was too little too late to save Galway.
