Trainer Saeed bin Suroor yesterday expressed his delight that Daylami had been given the accolade of Horse of the Year at the Cartier Racing Awards.

Daylami, winner of the Breeders' Cup Turf for Godolphin at Gulfstream Park earlier in the month, beat off stiff opposition from Montjeu, winner of the French Derby, Irish Derby and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

Montjeu, who defeated Daylami in heavy going in the Arc at Longchamp, was given the title of best three-year-old colt.

Montjeu's owner Michael Tabor was also responsible for Fasliyev, the best two-year-old colt, and Stravinsky, the top sprinter.

Bin Suroor had a less happy experience yesterday when he was fined a total of £1,000 by the Jockey Club's disciplinary committee over a positive drugs test given by Royal Line.

Royal Line tested positive for the prohibited substance pentoxifylline after winning the listed Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket's July meeting. It was the first time a Godolphin horse had failed a post-race test.

Royal Line has been disqualified from the Newmarket race, which has been awarded to the Aidan O'Brien's Moon Dragon.

Simon Sherwood will work Suny Bay at a secret location within the next 48 hours before deciding whether the grey will run in the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup at Newbury tomorrow week.
