Daylami, already voted Horse of the Year in the Cartier and Racehorse Owners Awards on this side of the Atlantic, is one of three nominees for the honour in North America.

Godolphin's grey won the Vodafone Coronation Cup, the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes, the Esat Digifone Champion Stakes and the Breeders' Cup Turf this season.

And he joins Dual-classic winner Charismatic and Artax, successful in the Breeders' Cup Sprint in the final for the prestigious Eclipse Award as Horse of the Year, racing's top honour in the United States.

The winner will be named at an award ceremony on January 17th, 2000, in Beverly Hills, California.

Charismatic, who ran for a $62,500 claiming tag during the winter, won the Coolmore Lexington Stakes, Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes in the space of five weeks during the spring.

But he was denied the chance to land the Triple Crown, suffering a career-ending injury when third in the Belmont Stakes.

Artax won just four times in 15 starts but finished the year by equalling the Gulfstream Park track record for six furlongs in the Breeders' Cup Sprint.

Daylami, who is also one of three nominees for Best Three-Year-Old And Up Turf Male, has already earned the title of champion of the inaugural Emirates World Series Racing Championship.

The Eclipse Awards are determined by voting from the National Turf Writers Association, Daily Racing Form, and NTRA (racing secretaries).
