DCU 0-16 Offaly 0-8:DUBLIN CITY University taught Offaly a big lesson when they waltzed to a very easy double-scores win in the O'Byrne Cup at O'Connor Park yesterday.
The students tore into the game with real abandon from the start as they camped in the Offaly half.
They would have been out of sight by the quarter way stage only for a sequence of terrible misses, including a penalty from Donal Shine which he kicked wide – it proved to be a bad day for the Roscommon man as he also received a straight red card early in the second half after a clash with Niall Smith.
Despite the misses, DCU were never under threat from Offaly and the result was a foregone conclusion when they led at half-time by 0-7 to 0-3.
Five points without reply in the opening 10 minutes of the second half ended any slim hopes that Offaly may have harboured. Even the loss of Shine didn’t disrupt DCU’s dominance and the sight of Offaly supporters heading for the exits with 10 minutes left spoke volumes about this game and how deserving the winners were of their victory.
