BASKETBALL: DCU SAINTS produced their best performance of the season to overcome a highly-fancied Bord Gais Neptune 87-60 and ensure their fifth consecutive win in the Nivea For Men's Superleague.

The win maintains their 100 per cent start and head coach David Donnelly believes the performance should show to his players they can compete for the major honours.

“Any questions whether we can compete at this level, we answered those questions with this win,” said David Donnelly. “Our defence was excellent and we had some big displays from the likes of Martins Provizors and Mike Trimmer.”

Moycullen ended their wait for a first win after recording a two-point win (77-75) over Belfast Star in overtime. The Westerners were on the back of two two-point defeats in their previous outings but made it third time lucky. Cian Nihill impressed in overtime, contributing five points.

Elsewhere, a basket from Rob Lynch in the dying seconds at the UCD Sports Centre was enough to give UL Eagles a much-needed three points away to UCD Marian. The 56-54 win ended UL’s recent losing run and moved Mark Keenan’s side into second position in the Southern Conference. Today they face a difficult proposition away to an in-form DCU Saints.

In the Nivea Women’s SuperLeague, UL and Team Montenotte Hotel are still the frontrunners with wins at home to Liffey Celtics and Ulster Rockets respectively. Oblate Dynamos got their first win of the campaign at home to Singleton Super Valu Brunell courtesy of a 61-58, while Meteors emerged from their trip away to Waterford Wildcats with maximum points.
