Former Sunderland manager Bob Stokoe has died at the age of 73. Stokoe led the Wearside club to their famous 1973 FA Cup final victory over Leeds at Wembley, when the north-east club were massive underdogs against Don Revie's side.
It was the first time a second division team had won the Cup for 40 years and the final is best remembered for Jimmy Montgomery's brilliant double save.
Stokoe, who had been suffering from dementia, was admitted to the University Hospital of Hartlepool on Tuesday and passed away yesterday morning.
And former Scotland manager Ally McLeod, who led his country to the 1978 World Cup finals in Argentina, has died at the age of 72. McLeod had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease.
"Obviously everybody in Scottish football is saddened to hear of his death," an SFA spokesman said.
