The death has occurred of Christo Hand, who was left half back on Meath's first All-Ireland Senior Football winning team in 1949.

He filled the same position on four Leinster winning sides and for the National Football League success in New York in 1951.

Hand had the distinction of figuring on county SFC winning teams in two counties, for Seán McDermott's in Dublin in 1947 and for St Vincent's (Ardcath) in Meath in 1955.

Sports History Ireland is holding its second annual conference this morning in NUI Maynooth.
