GAELIC GAMES News round-up: The Games Administration Committee will decide the punishment - if any - of Athenry's Diarmuid Cloonan tonight.
The St Mary's full back was sent off in the All-Ireland club hurling semi-final against Toomevara and a suspension of over a month will rule him out of the St Patrick's Day final against Kilkenny's James Stephens.
Cloonan was shown a straight red card for an off-the-ball incident with John O'Brien, who was also dismissed and is also before the disciplinary panel.
The player is a brother of club captain Eugene Cloonan and has been pivotal in the club's march towards an attempted fourth All-Ireland club title in 11 years.
Meanwhile, there are indications among Galway football circles that Michael Donnellan may be returning to the panel under new manager Peter Ford. Padraic Joyce has already returned to training.
The Meath hurlers go into Saturday's rescheduled league match against Wicklow in Arklow under the guidance of hurling board chairman TJ Reilly and secretary Enda Smith as they search for a replacement to John Hunt.
The former Clare man resigned after disastrous defeats to DIT and London. Hunt cited player revolt and lack of support from Reilly and Smith for his departure. Hunt brought in former Offaly All-Ireland winning manager Eamon Cregan, but he too stepped down, forcing the hurling board to take the reigns.
Meath footballer Evan Kelly has ruled out an immediate return to the intercounty panel, but also has no intention of retiring. A combination of work commitments and an overexposure to football forced the veteran to take a back seat this year, but he is still active with his club Simonstown Gaels.
"I'm trying to get myself fully fit," he said. "Also, I'm fairly busy at work and with other commitments outside of football. It's only March and there is a long way to go. I'm doing my own gym work and still have the summer in mind so we'll see how it goes. I haven't spoken to Seán Boylan or any selectors recently, but they are aware of my situation."
Elsewhere, the Fitzgibbon Cup semi-finals take place on Friday at Limerick IT, with the hosts unlikely to call on Tipperary's Eoin Kelly (torn hamstring) for their match against NUI Galway. Cork's Kieran Murphy is another doubt.
For NUIG, former Tipperary under-21 Tony Scroope is a concern. In the other semi-final, University of Limerick face Waterford IT with the final scheduled for Saturday at the Gaelic Grounds.
The death has occurred in Limerick of Dick Leonard, who captained the UCG team to the Fitzgibbon Cup in 1949. Six years later he led Ahane to the Limerick senior hurling championship. Leonard played for several seasons with the Limerick senior hurling team.
The latest GAA managerial debacle in Galway is expected to reach a relatively harmonious conclusion tonight when Sharon Glynn is appointed as boss of the county's senior camogie side.
All three other candidates who were nominated for the post - including Noel Finn, who walked out of the job a few weeks ago after a row - have pulled out of the race, paving the way for the former star forward to take charge.
