Derry City finally played their way out of financial difficulty at the Brandywell last night thanks to the visit of Premiership leaders Manchester United.

And while the game could hardly be described as a spectacle, the Northern club pocketed in the region of £100,000 with their second capacity attendance in six weeks.

United, without any of their star performers, fielded players of the calibre of Mikael Silvestre, Raimond Van Der Gouw, David May and David Healy in the company of a host of youngsters.

While Derry had their chances, the game was decided in the 64th minute when, following a break on the right, Alex Notman guided the ball to the Derry net.

Celtic have made a fresh inquiry about Leicester midfielder Neil Lennon, the player's representative has confirmed.

Parkhead manager Martin O'Neill is a long-term admirer of Lennon - he signed him for Leicester from Crewe - and with Paul Lambert injured until the new year the need for a new midfielder has increased.
