Alessandro Del Piero returns to the Juventus starting line-up for tonight's Group A match with Club Bruges as he looks to make his mark on a season dominated by his attacking team-mates.
Swede Zlatan Ibrahimovic, whose superb solo goal was the highlight of Juve's impressive 4-1 win at AS Roma in Serie A on Saturday, is suspended and coach Fabio Capello confirmed yesterday that Del Piero would replace him.
Del Piero will partner David Trezeguet who scored twice in Rome.
Midfielders Michael Ballack and Mehmet Scholl will miss Bayern Munich's Group A clash with Rapid Vienna and Brazilian winger Ze Roberto is a serious doubt.
Ballack, who is considering a move away from Bayern at the end of the season, had to sit out the 2-1 win over Arminia Bielefeld on Saturday because of a thigh injury and he will not be fit in time, the club said yesterday.
Scholl is also out after suffering a similar injury in Saturday's game.
Bayern can reach the last 16 if they win and Juventus do not lose.
Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas, meanwhile, has renewed speculation about his future after saying he had only a 60 per cent chance of staying at the Bernabeu at the end of the season.
"Things are the same as they were seven months ago," he told a news conference yesterday when asked for a progress report about the renewal of his contract which expires at the end of the season. "I would say there is a 60 per cent chance of me staying."
Spanish media have said that Manchester United and Arsenal are both interested in recruiting the 24-year-old Spanish international.
