The FAI chief executive is in Letterkenny for the Association’s AGM and he has indicated that he will inform around 250 delegates that he is to take another wage cut.

Last year, Delaney took a 7.2 per cent drop from the €431,687 he had been earning.

His salary – double that of Taoiseach Enda Kenny and €151,000 more than President Michael D Higgins – has been the subject of much discussion lately, but the FAI chief has hinted he will reveal another cut today.

“That is something that I will speak about on Saturday at the AGM. I took a pay cut last year and I intend to address this at the AGM again,” he said.

“I took pay cuts in the past and I will take them into the future again. I have no difficulty with that.

“I have taken pay cuts on a voluntary basis before.

“I signed a contract seven ago. I earned more before I got this job and I have been offered jobs since I got this job on a lot more money.”

Delaney has been CEO since 2005 and has a contract that runs until 2015.

The FAI have had some turbulent times of late with several high-profile jobs shed.

Packie Bonner was let go as Technical Director in late 2010, while last month Wim Koevermans left his post as International High Performance Director to take up the role as head coach of the Indian national team. Koevermans has not been replaced.

It emerged this week that Eoin Hand’s contract as Football Support Services Manager is not being renewed and Michael Lynham has also left his post as children’s officer.

In 2011, staff numbers at the FAI dropped from 179 to 173.
