Republic Of Ireland under-21 international Rory Delap completed a £750,000 move from second division Carlisle United to Premiership club Derby County last night. Delap, a full back, will be in Jim Smith's squad for Derby's Premiership fixture with Aston Villa tomorrow.

Delap, whose father is from Letterkenny, is in the Irish B squad that takes on Northern Ireland B at Tolka Park on Wednesday night. The deal is initially worth £500,000 to Carlisle, with further payments dependant on first-team appearances.

Crystal Palace will complete the £1 million signing of Matt Jansen from Carlisle early next week, subject to a medical. The London club have pipped Manchester United for the signature of the 20-year-old striker, who could cost Palace a further £1 million depending on appearances.

Newcastle's England B defender John Beresford is on the verge of moving to Southampton. The Sheffield-born left back has been given permission to talk to manager David Jones, and it is understood that a fee, believed to be £1.5 million, has been agreed between the clubs.
