FAI/Premier Division: Derry City will continue their search for a striker after Eddie Annand's proposed move to the Brandywell fell through over what the club claim were the player's high financial demands.
"Derry City FC have decided against offering Eddie Annand a contract," the club said in a statement. "After negotiations with the player's agent, the club are of the opinion that his personal demands are unacceptable.
"The search for suitable players is ongoing and our manager, Kevin Mahon, is receiving assistance from well-placed contacts both at home and abroad."
A member of the Sligo Rovers side which won both the first division title and FAI Cup in 1994, 30-year-old Annand has been back playing in Scotland for the last eight years. He won a Scottish Division Three championship winner's medal with Morton last season prior to his contract expiring on May 31st.
The postponement of tonight's Premier Division match in Longford due to an unplayable pitch gives Mahon some breathing space with strikers Liam Coyle and Tommy McCallion unlikely to be fit for another week at least while captain Eamonn Doherty, also suffering with a knee, and winger winger Seán Friars (ribs) wouldn't have played tonight either.
WEEKEND FIXTURES
