Derry City - 3 Sligo Rovers - 0:National League Cup: Derry City cruised into the League Cup semi-final and a date with Longford Town following this one-sided game against Sligo Rovers at the Brandywell last night.
With Ciarán Martyn and Peter Hutton dominating the vital middle of the park area, the home side were always in control and while Gareth McGlynn missed a great chance in the 12th minute, Derry opened their account five minutes later.
A short corner, involving Seán Friars and Gary Beckett, saw the ball worked into the penalty area before striker, Pádraig Moran, forced the ball home.
Ten minutes later, Derry doubled their lead when a superb crossfield pass from Beckett saw Friars run clear and, in the one-on-one situation, the winger drove a low shot wide of goalkeeper Ciarán Kelly.
From another corner, McGlynn found substitute Kevin Deery and his cross saw Friars head the ball home in the 72nd minute.
