NL Cup quarter-final - Derry City 4 Waterford United 0: Derry may have eventually cruised into the semi-finals of the League Cup at the Brandywell yesterday, but Kevin Mahon's men had to wait until the start of the second half before finally ending the challenge of gutsy first division opponents, Waterford United.

Star striker Liam Coyle sent Derry on their way with a ferocious right-foot drive from 18 yards in the 55th minute after the Waterford defence failed to deal with a throw-in from Seán Hargan.

Two minutes later Gareth McGlynn drove the ball to the net after Tommy McCallion's low cross had been diverted onto the post by Waterford centre half Dave Whittle.

McCallion finished off a fluent four-man Derry move on the right to make it 3-0, the midfielder scoring with a powerful angled shot.
