SOCCER: Batttling Bray Wanderers ended Derry City's unbeaten record at the Brandywell last night, following a disciplined first-half performance.
But it was Derry who got off to a great start when breaking the deadlock in the 10th minute. Striker Jamie Hughes rushed on to a pass from midfield before driving the ball beyond the reach of the advancing Matt Gregg.
But the Wicklow side battled back to level matters in the 34th minute. Following an Eddie Gormley corner, the ball was flicked on at the near post before Mitch Doohan headed powerfully home from six yards.
And Pat Devlin's side moved into the driving seat four minutes before the break. Stephen Fox released Paul Keegan on the right and as Derry keeper Russell Payne left his goal line, the striker unselfishly passed the ball inside to Jason Byrne who rolled it into the unguarded net.
