Galway United ... 2 Derry City ... 3: Liam Coyle worked his magic once again to earn Derry a win with another dramatic late goal. Coyle, who salvaged a point against UCD at the Brandywell on Tuesday night, came off the bench again to score at Terryland Park.
Derry goalkeeper Russell Payne had just made a terrific save from Alan Murphy at the other end when the ball was cleared to Coyle. The 33-year-old weaved his way past several challenges to score a glorious goal.
Tommy McCallion had twice brought Derry from behind with a brace of second-half equalisers; hitting his first on 65 minutes to equalise Kirk Miller's 23rd minute opener for Galway. Mark Cobey punched clear a cross from Darren McCready and McCallion drove home from the edge of the area.
Alan Murphy restored the lead for Galway on 73 minutes, running clear from midfield to calmly shoot past Payne. McCallion then struck again on 81 minutes with a stunning right-footer into the far corner of the net, before Coyle wrapped it up for the visitors.
