Age no barrier to in-form Fenlon
THEY say that wine improves with age. Well how about golfers?
Do we get better the older we get.
Maybe we should ask Ned Fenlon, who earlier this month at the age of 74 won Davy Doran’s President’s Prize at New Ross golf club. Having previously won the Captain’s Prize back in 2008, Fenlon – a 12-handicapper – recorded 80 points and managed to edge out Patsy Farrell (15) for the top prize with Walter Kennedy (15) third on 79.
PATRICIAMagee continued her good form at Coollattin golf club recently. Having won Anna Rochford's Lady Captain's Prize back in July – her second Lady Captain's Prize since joining the club in 2005 – the seven handicapper has now added the President's Prize to her collection after she shot 39 points to secure a two-point winning margin over Anne Ryan (9) with Phil Walshe (20) third on 36 points. Helen E McGoohan was the gross winner.

Russell the new Boys U-15 champion
CLANDEBOYE’S William Russell shot a closing 76 for a two round total of 149 to capture the Irish Boys Under-15 Amateur Open Championship at Naas GC.
Having fired an excellent 73 in highly testing conditions on day one, Russell held the joint overnight lead with Eoin King from Ashbourne and Jason Lynch from Ballybunion. The pair failed to shine on day two as Russell opened with three pars before double-bogeying on the fourth.
Five more pars followed for an opening nine of 37 but dropped shots on the 10th, 13th and 14th holes left Russell with work to do.
A birdie-par-birdie run from the 15th gave the Clandeboye player a one-shot lead. A stray drive found the out-of-bounds on the right hand side of the last but Russell held his composure to make par with his second ball and win by one stroke from Luke Woods from Banbridge. Paul Genestou from France and England’s Jevann Parmar finished tied for third place a further shot back.
