Oliver Casey teamed up with his father Peter's Society Queen to land a tidy gamble in the Bambury Bookmakers Handicap on the second evening of the annual Bellewstown Festival.

Supported from 12 to 1 down to 9 to 2, supporters looked in big trouble turning-in when the gamble was racing towards the rear but she sprouted wings under a determined drive from her pilot, weaving her way gradually through the field, to put her head in front where it mattered.

Not surprisingly a stewards inquiry was called and while the judges placings were left unaltered, much to the delight of her shrewd followers, Casey junior was penalised for his gallant effort.

He was banned for two days for careless riding and also picked up a similar suspension for excessive use of his stick.

Alan Fagan will also have fond memories of the evening.

The 19-year-old son of former rider Dermot Fagan recorded his first success in the plate when landing the first division of the Old Mill Handicap aboard Jeremy Harley's Gers Gold.

Grangecon handler Willie Bourke captured the training honours with a 71 to 1 brace sparked off with Treora and Derek Stamp in the second division of the Old Mill Handicap before Monty's Fancy scored in the hands of Colm Cronin in the finale.
