FRANKIE DETTORI provided a ray of sunshine at a dark and gloomy Goodwood when announcing his return from a 10 day riding ban with two winners yesterday.
The champion jockey relaunched his season when gaining a clear cut success aboard Taipan in the Pullman Foods Handicap on his first ride back in the saddle and followed up later on North Song.
Afterwards he said. "I ride Bint Shadayid in the Irish 1,000 Guineas. She ran a great race at Newmarket but I don't know about the soft ground. Russian Revival, who runs in the Irish 2,000, has not run for a year but that doesn't worry me because Godolphin don't miss in the big races."
During his suspension he spent the time getting as far away from racing as possible and revealed his own charitable side.
"I wanted to keep away from racing because it can get frustrating watching all those winners go in so I went back to Italy for four days," he recalled.
"I then went to Ireland with Barney Curley where I stayed in a retreat and sponsored a golf tournament in aid of the Society of Missionaries in Africa."
