All-Ireland MFC quarter-finals/Roscommon 1-12 Tipperary 0-6: A goal from a penalty, finished with precision by Conor Devanney in the third minute of first-half added-time, was a key score as Roscommon qualified for an All-Ireland semi-final joust with Meath.
Roscommon were by far the better supported team in Tullamore on Saturday as a more clinical Tipperary unit made the most of their opportunities in the first half to go into a two-point lead with four minutes remaining in the half.
Scoring was slow before the break, with 16-year-old Tipperary midfielder Paddy Murphy getting things under way with a point in the fifth minute.
Timmy Dalton converted two frees, either side of a Devanney placed ball to open up that two-point gap. The Connacht champions' situation improved as the first half came to an end and points from Devanney and Donal Shine (two frees) put them ahead briefly.
Although substitute Séamus Grogan curled over an excellent equaliser for Tipperary, Roscommon's hopes received a significant boost when Devanney coolly slotted home the penalty.
The second half was a procession as all of the Roscommon forwards found the target, while Tipperary had to wait until the final minute to get their only score of the half from Dalton.
