St Eunan's Brendan Devenney gave an outstanding display scoring 14 points to guide the Letterkenny club to a totally deserved eighth senior championship title in Donegal.

Seven thousand spectators witnessed a wonderful game as St Eunan's who were stripped of their 1997 title by an objection from Ballyshannon's Aodh Ruadh, took extra satisfaction from this very sweet victory. The defending champions, Aodh Ruadh, couldn't cope with the remarkable Devenny who at various stages was marked with little success by three different Aodh Ruadh defenders.

Aodh Ruadh led 1-4 to 0-1 after 11 minutes, John Duffy scoring a penalty. But St Eunan's response was immediate, and they scored six points inside seven minutes to lead by a point at half-time.

With the veteran Charlie Mulgrew dictating from centre forward St Eunan's began to win ball in a very crowded midfield.
