Tyrone 1-10 Derry 0-10: A Damien McDermott goal and a six-point tally from skipper Gareth Devlin helped Tyrone come from behind to send Derry crashing out of the Ulster MFC title race.
Centre back McDermott fired home the only goal of the game five minutes into the second half, while the finishing power of Devlin, a veteran of the minor game and an All-Ireland winner at this level in 2004, was the decisive factor.
Derry attacked with confidence in the opening 10 minutes, with James McNicholl on target twice as they opened up a 0-3 to 0-1 lead. James Kielt added a 45, and another McNicholl free opened up a four-point lead.
Tyrone finished the half strongly, however, with Brian Toner and Gareth Devlin converting frees, and at the break, the Oak Leafers led 0-7 to 0-5.
But when centre back Damien McDermott broke through for a goal five minutes into the second half, Tyrone suddenly led by three.
Derry kicked a series of bad wides and failed to score in the final quarter, during which Tyrone grew in confidence.
Brian Toner, from a free, and Devlin, with two gems, sealed the win for Tyrone, while Derry finished the game with 14 men, after wing back Danny Mulholland was sent off for a second bookable offence.
