After earning himself a second chance of a successful European Tour career, German Tobias Dier is determined to avoid the mistakes he made first time around.

Last year after claiming the North West of Ireland Open, Dier (25) never got back on a roll and missed every cut for the rest of the season, while only playing five more times.

In finishing only 128th on the European rankings following his success at Slieve Russell, Dier would have lost his Tour card had he not earned a one-year exemption from the co-rated event with the Challenge Tour.

While he had missed seven successive cuts before picking up his first title, this year he had missed 12 cuts out of 15 going into the Dutch Open he made his private property last week.

But his fortunes changed in a flash with a blistering European Tour record-equalling first round 60 at Hilversum, this time against a class field, unlike at Slieve Russell, and Dier never looked back, winning wire-to-wire.

"Things will be different this time," said Dier.

"For a start I will play the next event. I didn't play the week after Ireland and now I realise that was a mistake.

"With this I will move up in the world rankings and if I keep playing well I hope to move into the top 100 and just go from there."

Dier was disappointed with his putting after his first round display which he labelled "awesome" but happy with his driving, having only once found the notorious Hilversumsche spinneys.

Such accuracy will be needed when he tackles the Kunsagen layout this week near Stockholm, where Colin Montgomerie has relented and decided to defend the title he won in Malmo last year.
