DLSP are liable to have their biggest crowd ever next Tuesday for the visit of Lansdowne, the Kilternan club's first home game in Division One in, well, as they bill it themselves, 100 years.
Fittingly therefore, DLSP have confirmed that this historic league tie will also officially constitute their Centenary Match, something for which they are publicly indebted to Lansdowne's co-operative spirit.
DLSP president Frank Brannigan says that "a prime objective for our centenary season is to make DLSP a truly community-based club and we encourage support from everybody living in our area."
Accordingly, a four-page colour brochure inviting the local community to support and consider joining the club's thriving underage section was sent out to over 1,500 homes this month and they are also offering free family membership for this game.
Relatively secure financially, and keen not to overstretch themselves upon their arrival in the top flight, DLSP have also been given a guaranteed one-off donation of £50,000 by a group of 21 members, on condition that the club members match this offer.
The money will be utilised to support the first-team squad and, according to Brannigan, send them "on a well-earned `thank-you' tour at the end of the season, to enable the club to celebrate its centenary in a proper fashion, and to support a new standard of excellence throughout the club."
