Derry City ... 1 UCD ... 0: Derry City skipper Eamon Doherty was hailed a hero at the Brandywell last night when his extra-time strike paid for his club's ticket into the FAI cup semi-finals.
Having scored a dramatic 93rd minute equaliser at Belfield Park on Sunday against UCD, Derry left it late again and on this occasion his goal brought the attendance of 4,000 to life.
A deep cross on the left by substitute Padraig Moran was not intercepted and Doherty, unmarked at the back post, lashed the ball home from close range.
Derry had dominated the second half of last night's replay but they found UCD goalkeeper Barry Ryan in inspirational form.
Indeed, the Dubliner did well in the 77th minute to save a header from one of his own players before pulling off a spectacular save in the 82nd minute from striker Jamie Hughes.
The UCD goalkeeper also dealt comfortably with longrange shots from Tommy McCallion and Sean Hargan to keep his side in this game.
But it was UCD who created the best scoring opportunity on the stroke of half-time when John Martin failed to beat goalkeeper, Russell Payne in a one-on- one situation.
And compounding UCD's woes was the fact that sweeper Alan Mahon was sent off in the 124th minute having received a second yellow card.
Derry now travel to Dalymount Park to face Bohemians in this season's semi-final after Stephen Kenny's side hammered Bray Wanderers 4-0 at the Carlisle grounds.
