NFL Division Two A/Donegal 1-9 Limerick 0-5: A magnificent goal from Donegal's Michael Doherty was the main highlight of a dull game in MacCumhaill Park, Ballybofey.
The home side only managed two goals prior to this, but Doherty's strike seven minutes from the break was worth waiting for.
The goal put Donegal in control as they lead by 1-3 to 0-2 at the break and three quick points at the start of the second half put the contest beyond Limerick's reach. Apart from Doherty, who finished with a tally of 1-5, Rory Kavanagh showed up well in the Donegal attack, but they also hit 13 wides.
John Galvin was Limerick's best, but he lost his midfield partner Jason Stokes through injury before the break and thereafter Donegal took a grip.
The win puts Donegal in line for promotion, joining Limerick on nine points, but having a much superior scoring average.
The game saw the return of stars for both sides with Muiris Gavin and Michael Hegarty introduced after long lay-offs.
