Ken Doherty defeated Scotland's Marcus Campbell 5-1 in the Scottish Open in Aberdeen yesterday to set up an all Dublin match with Fergal O'Brien. That's a repeat last year's quarter-final meeting in the same tournament.
O'Brien made breaks of 134 and 110 to defeat Malta's Tony Drago 5-4, the same score-line by which he denied former world champion Doherty 12 months ago.
Earlier controversial Australian Quinten Hann earned another rebuke from a fellow professional after he was beaten Graeme Dott.
Hann delayed the contest for 15 minutes in the middle of the match to have a tip replaced on his cue after his initial request to make repairs was turned down by referee John Williams.
Glaswegian Dott later described his opponent's attitude as "terrible" adding after a 5-2 second round win: "Quinten is so talented he doesn't need to do these things."
Matters came to a head after Hann's 69 clearance in frame five gave him his first success of the match. He indicated to Williams there was a problem with his tip and requested an adjournment.
Williams declined to halt the game and told him work could only be carried out if the tip was coming off. Hann then disappeared to the toilets and on his return the tip had worked loose.
