ALLIANZ FOOTBALL LEAGUE DIVISIONS ONE & TWO: Donegal 2-18 Derry 2-12:DONEGAL MAINTAINED their unbeaten league record thanks to the irresistible form of their inside forward duo of Michael Murphy and Colm McFadden at Celtic Park on Saturday evening.
The deadly duo provided a display of power, pace and finishing as they racked up a combined tally of 2-10 to continue Donegal’s promotion drive.
Rory Kavanagh’s driving presence in midfield punched holes in the Oak Leaf defence that Murphy and McFadden exploited.
Caileann O’Boyle grabbed an early goal and a point for Derry but Donegal soon settled and they set about reeling in the deficit and were level at 1-5 to 0-8 after 28 minutes. McFadden burst through to score a goal which gave Donegal the lead on 31 minutes and they led by 1-11 to 1-9 at the break.
Derry’s O’Boyle scored a 51st-minute penalty to level matters at 2-10 to 1-13. A free from Dermot Molloy put Donegal back in front and then Murphy burst through to finish emphatically for a vital goal.
Derry lost Kevin McCloy to a second yellow card 13 minutes from time and despite the introduction of Paddy Bradley they were unable to turn the tide.
