FAI CUP THIRD ROUND Cherry Orchard 2 Monaghan United 2: GAVIN DONOGHUE redeemed himself to earn Cherry Orchard a replay with the last kick of the game at Red Cow.
The Leinster Senior League side trailed 2-0 after 53 minutes, but punished poor defending to send the tie back to Kingspan Century Park on Tuesday night.
With referee Phil Caschera’s watch into the 95th minute – despite his having signalled only three minutes of added time – Gary Sullivan’s long throw wasn’t cleared and Donoghue rifled the loose ball to the net.
Donoghue had been at fault as he got the wrong side of David Freeman, who fired Monaghan in front on 22 minutes.
Central defender Donoghue then conceded the free-kick which man-of-the-match Barry Clancy shot home on 53 minutes to double Monaghan’s lead.
But Cherry Orchard didn’t lie down and they got back into the match six minutes later following a silly foul by Aidan Lynch on Philip Sheppard.
Sheppard duly delivered the resulting free-kick into the penalty area and Stephen Leadbitter headed powerfully to the net.
