Declan O'Grady was the match-winner for Patrickswell with a last-minute point as they collected their 17th Limerick title - but it was veteran Gary Kirby who stole the show. The 33-year-old midfielder led by example with a personal contribution of 12 points, all from frees.

Doon, appearing in only their second county final, were shattered at the finish having led all the way until O'Grady picked the ball up about 40 yards out and sent over a decisive score.

The match, watched by a crowd of 5,500, was not without incident with Barry Foley registering a controversial point for the winners just before the break. Then former All Star Ciaran Carey was dismissed three minutes into the second half.

Doon held control in the opening 30 minutes and Paddy Coleman and Don Anderson had them four ahead at the break, 0-11 to 0-7. Gary Kirby levelled the scores on the 57th minute at 14 points each. Just when it seemed that a replay might be necessary, up popped O'Grady to emerge the hero.
