John Doran, Ireland's full-time Davis Cup player, was at his best when winning his first Irish Men's Open championship at Templeogue on Saturday.

Doran's form, based on a consistent serve, against South African Vaughan Snyman, was also timely ahead of his involvement in this week's $50,000 Challenger event in Los Angeles.

The Harvard graduate fairly demolished the South African's uncertain game, 6-1 6-2, in less than an hour to also become the quickest winner of the final in recent years.

"I think it was the best I have ever played at home," said top seeded Doran, who lost a mere three points on his four first set service games.

The South African presented a brief threat with break points in the second game of the second set after winning the first, but Doran pulled away with ease.

Partnering Australian Luke Bourgeois, Snyman also lost out in the doubles final, going down to Doran and Owen Casey.
