Noel Meade and Paul Carberry recorded a first and last race double on the opening day of the October Bank Holiday meeting at Galway before a crowd of 6,000 patrons yesterday.

Global Diamond initiated the brace when making all in the opening Bank Of Ireland Juvenile Hurdle to justify favouritism under a confident ride by Paul Carberry, from Master Cooper and Tom Rudd.

"I didn't think we would make the running. But she did it well in what looked an easy contest but I'd say she is better tucked in behind than making the running," said Meade.

Carberry oozed confidence in the concluding Ballybrit Novice Chase on last month's Listowel scorer, Hill Society, when landing the spoils with the minimum of fuss. After jumping to the front over the third last, the partnership pinged the penultimate fence before safely negotiating the last to score eased down by six lengths.
