John Oxx has his string in fine fettle at the moment and he completed a double at Cork yesterday with the newcomer, Hanzanar, in the Elverstown EBF Maiden and Bakkar in the Beggars End Race. After John Murtagh produced Hanzanar with a perfectly-timed run to shade Matter Of Trust in the maiden, he went on to partner Bakkar to score with a bit in hand in the penultimate contest.

Sam Vaughan headed the market at 6 to 4 for the Ingoldsby Handicap Chase, but after receiving a kick down at the start, was withdrawn before a fair start could be effected. His exit left way for the remaining six runners to battle it out, with victory going to the Enda Bolger-trained Young Dubliner and John McNamara, who came home two lengths clear of Riszard.

Martin Walsh, son of Riszard's handler John Joe Walsh, was very easy on his mount in the closing stages and, following a stewards' inquiry, he explained that he had misjudged the number of circuits. The officials took a dim view and banned the rider for 14 days (Oct 11th-24th) and fined him £100.

Bolger and McNamara went on to complete a double in the bumper when Lanmire justified favouritism with the minimum of fuss.
