News: Nick Dougherty was selected by Europe/US team captain Colin Montgomerie yesterday for the inaugural Goodwill Trophy against the Rest of the World in China next month.

Dougherty, 24, joins fellow Britons Paul Casey and Luke Donald, American Chris DiMarco, Swede Henrik Stenson and Spaniard Alejandro Canizares in a team featuring Europeans and Americans playing on the same side for the first time.

"Nick is undoubtedly a major talent," said player-captain Montgomerie. "I remember playing with him when he won the Singapore Masters last year for his first European Tour victory. He won by five shots and that demonstrated to me he has the ability and mental toughness to make a big impact on world golf."

Retief Goosen will lead the Rest of the World team and has already selected South Korean KJ Choi, Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand, New Zealand's Michael Campbell and Lian Wei Zhang of China in his side.

The Goodwill Trophy has been developed as a collaborative event between China's Mission Hills Golf Club and the Celtic Manor Resort, host of the 2010 Ryder Cup, to enhance trade, tourism and cultural exchange between Britain and China.

The Jack Nicklaus-designed course at Mission Hills Golf Club will host the event on November 13th and 14th. Montgomerie and Goosen complete their line-ups over the next two weeks.

Meanwhile, Japan's Naomichi 'Joe' Ozaki has been named captain of the Asian team for next year's Royal Trophy against Europe in Bangkok.
