Hurling Walsh Cup/ Wexford 3-14 Offaly 2-6: A goal and a point in injury-time from Stephen Doyle gave Wexford a dramatic one-point victory over Offaly in the Walsh Cup semi-final at St Brendan's Park, Birr.
It was rough justice on Offaly who had made the running from the early stages but errors in defence were punished by scores from Wexford and ultimately that cost them a place in the final.
Offaly got a great start when Joe Bergin finished a five-man move with a goal in the third minute. Offaly built on that and by the 23rd minute led by 1-7 to 0-2. Wexford finished the half well and Rory Jacob had the ball in the net before half-time to leave them just four points behind, 1-8 to 1-4, at the break.
Wexford levelled with Seán O'Neill's goal seven minutes into the second half and the sides exchanged points before Brian Carroll gave Offaly the advantage again with a 48th-minute goal.
Both sides added points to their tally and with eight minutes left Wexford cut the lead to a single point. When Offaly went three points clear in the closing minutes it looked like they were through to the final but Stephen Doyle had the last say with that goal and point in injury-time to put Wexford into the final against Kilkenny.
