The replay at Richmond Park is scheduled for Monday, the day before St Pat’s fly to Bucharest to play Steaua in the first leg of their Europa League qualifier.

“It’s a game we didn’t need, but we’ll have to get on with it,” said Kenna afterwards.

Mark Quigley went close twice for the visitors in the first half, but was denied on both occasions by Monaghan United goalkeeper Aaron McCarey.

The second half continued in similar fashion, with Quigley again prominent. He came closest with a 25-yard drive which McCarey managed to turn around his post.

Barry Clancy, Monaghan’s top scorer this season, was presented with an opportunity to win the game on 80 minutes, but was denied by St Patrick’s goalkeeper Gary Rogers.
