Better known for his exploits over hurdles than the Flat, Dreams End will need some luck in running to win the £100,000-added Tote Ebor today at York from stall 22 on the wide outside of the field.

But in the hope that Gary Carter can still get a decent position early on, the gallant nine-year-old is the choice to take the honours.

He has been campaigned this season at trips of up to a mile and a half and this step up in distance to an extended 14 furlongs will test his stamina fully. But his hurdles form over distances in excess of two miles suggests that he will still get home.

He won over this far back in 1993 and the way Dreams End was staying on at the finish when third in Haydock's Old Newton Cup behind Zaralaska also suggests that the extra yardage will not be a problem.
