Motor Sport/Phoenix Park races: After a totally dominant Formula Libre victory at Phoenix Park on Saturday, Dan Daly further tweaked the engine of his Formula 3000 Reynard for a top speed of circa 180mph. But it was all in vain yesterday as the Dunshaughlin driver clipped the chicane on the first lap and was out of the race with damaged suspension.

Simon McKinley (Rush) entertained the large crowd of spectators with his rally-style cornering technique as he powered his Lant RT4 to a runaway win from Ken Fildes in a Ralt, who finished second on both days.

Fildes just snatched second from German driver Carsten Meurer in the first of the Libre races, and in the second race Motorsport Ireland president John Naylor finished third.

Leinster Motors Club and the "Phoenix Park Drivers" put on a superb two day's of road racing, run in a carnival atmosphere, which will certainly go a long way towards ensuring the future of this unique and traditional sporting occasion in Dublin.

Saturday's race winners were Donal Griffin, Mark Monks, Malcolm Spendlove, Peter Drennan, Mark Willis, Ray Moore and Jackie Cochrane. Anton Savage beat Enda O'Connor in the first of yesterday's Formula Sheane races, with the placing reversed in the second race.

Ken Elliott finished third behind Ray Moore and Garry Newsome in the first Formula Vee race, but in the second race Elliott pulled ahead after a terrific dice to win.

Steven Kershaw won the comined race for Leastone Formula 5s and British Formula Vees. Fiat race winners were Liam Denning and Jamie Masterson, other winners were Peter Drennan and Mark Willis.
