Galway United 0 Drogheda United 2: DROGHEDA UNITED showed why Alan Mathews is regarded as one of the League of Ireland's most crafty managers at Terryland Park last night. Despite a restricted budget, Mathews has constructed a solid side and they proved too good for Galway.
With Paul Shiels and Eric McGill grafting diligently in the centre of the park, Drogheda totally dominated in the first half.
Brendan McGill hit the post before Drogheda eventually opened the scoring after 22 minutes. James Chambers fired a free-kick into the penalty area and Conor Kenna headed home.
The visitors exposed Galway’s defensive frailties again in the 45th minute when Chambers set up Jamie Duffy who finished well.
