Drogheda United 0 Waterford United 0: Second-placed Waterford were outplayed last night at O2 Park as the game sprang into life in the second half when Drogheda repeatedly attacked but poor finishing, and goalkeeper Dan Connor, denied the home side.
Drogheda should have scored 10 minutes from half-time. From a John Lester corner Stephen Gray knocked the ball into the path of Danny O'Connor who drove his effort over from 10 yards.
With three minutes gone in the second half Declan O'Brien delayed his strike allowing David Mulcahy to take the ball from him. Minutes later Gary Cronin headed wide and then pulled a shot over the bar. Connor was off his line smartly to save at Dave Freeman's feet with 71 minutes gone and stopped a Barry Molloy effort moments later.
With 11 minutes remaining Brian Kelly went close with a header and in the final minute Drogheda could have won but Connor pushed away David Sullivan's strike.
