Drogheda United 1 Shamrock Rovers 0It's been an excellent three days for Drogheda who recorded their second successive victory over Shamrock Rovers last night, thanks to a Mark
Rooney goal in the first half. Drogheda fully deserved their victory as they enjoyed the larger share of possession and opportunities throughout the 90 minutes.
The opening 20 minutes produced little in the way of good football and clear-cut chances. Rooney missed a good opportunity in the opening minute for the home side with Trevor Molloy heading a Mark Rutherford cross wide on 20 minutes for the visitors.
United won a penalty after 27 minutes when Terry Palmer pulled down Rooney in the box. Andy Myler knocked the spot kick off the post, but Rooney followed up to rifle the ball home.
