Derry C 0 Drogheda 3:DROGHEDA UNITED boss Mick Cooke will have been surprised at the ease with which his side plundered a deserved victory at the Brandywell last night.
And a struggling Derry City can have no argument with this result, the “Candy Stripes” clearly architects of their own downfall having gifted the “Drogs” all three goals.
Not surprisingly, the Brandywell Faithful were far from happy and it will be interesting to note if the Foyleside club opt to strengthen when the transfer window opens on Sunday.
After just eight minutes young debutant Michael Barr hesitated when attempting to clear his lines and in nipped Gavin Brennan to squeeze the ball past Ger Doherty from close range.
Two minutes after the break Drogheda struck again when Derry centre half Shane McEleney struggled with a clearance and Brennan pounced again to find the top corner to silence the Brandywell.
But it got worse, in the 55th minute “steady” Eddie McCallion received a throw-in from Barr but his pass was intercepted by Declan O’Brien and he coolly lobbed the advancing Doherty to put the game to bed.
