DRUNKEN SAILOR could return to Britain for a hurdle race following his fine effort in the valuable John Smith’s Stakes at Newbury on Saturday.

Co Longford trainer Paul Flynn is eyeing the williamhill.co.uk Hurdle Race at Chepstow on October 10th, won by Crack Away Jack last season.

The gelding was second to Michael Jarvis’ Almiqdaad in the competitive heat.

“We were delighted with him, he’s back at home and in the paddock and is in good order,” said Flynn.

“We might go to Chepstow for that good four-year-old handicap hurdle there in October and he might have one more run on the Flat, maybe at Naas.

“There’s a lot more money to be earned on the Flat. He won a Premier Handicap at the Galway Festival and he’ll be going there again next summer.

“A mile and a quarter on soft ground with a good pace is best for him. He definitely doesn’t stay a mile and six, we know that much, but anything between a mile and a quarter and a mile and a half is fine.”

Kieren Fallon clocked up another notable achievement since his comeback by partnering Strike The Deal to victory in the Group Three Dubai Duty Free World Trophy.

* Frankie Dettori filled in a gap on an otherwise illustrious CV when winning the Ayr Gold Cup on Jimmy Styles on Saturday.

Dettori completed a 34.5 to 1 double when be brought the Saeed bin Suroor-trained Prince Siegfried (11 to 8 favourite) home an easy winner of the Listed Doonside Cup..
