Dublin Colleges ... 2-11 St Brendan's, Birr ... 2-10When St Brendan's midfielder Neil Rogers swept his side two points in front with a goal in the 59th minute they looked to have caused a minor upset in the Leinster Colleges SHC A quarter-final in Carlow yesterday.
But in three injury-time minutes Dublin Colleges pocketed three points, Niall Paget clipping over the first from a free, then Lucan CBS's Aidan Glennon notched a superb equaliser and an equally good winner.
Dublin Colleges led 1-4 to 0-6 at half-time against the run of play. St Brendan's were deservedly 0-4 to 0-1 to the good after 10 minutes but shot 10 first-half wides playing with the wind. The Dublin side hit the front for the first time when Graham Morris hit a goal from a penalty.
Five minutes after the restart St Brendan's should have had a goal but Dylan Hayden's kicked effort went wide. From the puck-out Michael Carton hit a terrific goal for a 2-5 to 0-6 lead for Dublin Colleges. St Brendan's, however, were 1-10 to 2-6 in front at the end of the third quarter, Christopher Leonard's one-handed strike yielding a 41st minute goal.
Points from Peadar O'Laoire and Paget inched Dublin Colleges a point ahead by the 48th minute and so it remained until Rogers whipped the sliothar to the Dublin net after Paul Cleary had dropped a long-range free into the goalmouth.
Dublin Colleges will play the winners of the Wexford derby between St Peter's and Good Counsel in the semi-final.
