AN unfamiliar looking Dublin side played football of a familiar quality to out manoeuvre Babs Keating's AllStar selection in the senior football charity match at Russell Park last night.

Dublin manager Mickey Whelan was suitably assured of the ability of his panellists to play precision football against strong opposition. "It was good to get a break from the usual training stint," said Whelan.

Jason Sherlock scored one goal and "made" another for Damian O'Brien. Jack Sheedy, playing on a second successive evening since his nine month lay off through injury, put in some good runs and scored a first half point.

Keating's selection included players from seven counties with a tall midfield partnership in Armagh's Seamus Savage and Cavan's Charlie Clarke. This pair did well under the high ball, but when Dublin contrived to change the pattern with short passing the result became inevitable. Dublin midfielder Pat Gilroy positioned well to score three position points.

Donegal's John Duffy shot Keating's side into an early lead with a fine goal, following good work by Wicklow's Philip McGillicuddy and Kevin O'Brien. But two Dublin goals, the first by Damian O'Brien off a Sherlock pass and the second by Sherlock himself within a three minute spell at the beginning of the second quarter, gave Dublin the lead which they never relinquished. Dublin led by 2-5 to 1-6 at halftime.
